In the menstrual cycle there is a process called as Ovulation where an ovarian follicle when matured ruptures and ovum is discharged, this is also called as female gamete/ oocyte or an egg. This participates and helps in reproduction. This process also occurs in animal?s estrous cycle, which in various ways differs from a menstrual cycle. Before the process of Ovulation starts, ovarian follicle undergoes a chain of transformations which are important for the survival of ovum afterwards. This process is known as cumulus expansion. After this process is completed, stigma will be formed in the follicle and ovum will come out of the follicle using the hole. After that it enters the fallopian tubes travelling to the uterus, implanting itself it gets fertilized or if not then it degrades after 24 hours. This entire process needs maximum 32 hours to finish and it is then separated arbitrarily into 3 phases; periovulatory; ovulatory as well as postovulatory.
